A new initiative created by Indy Shakes Artistic Director, Ryan Artzberger.

What’s in a Canon? 

This question and the investigation of possible answers will be a guiding force in the future of Indy Shakes.   

Inspired by our desire to broaden representation at every facet of our organization, and by the “Expanding the Canon” efforts of the Hedgepig Ensemble in Brooklyn, NY, the “What’s in a Canon?” initiative will expand the scope of artistry and points of view represented in our work by including works by playwrights of all races, ethnicities, and genders (especially those whose backgrounds are historically underrepresented) and living playwrights. 

We have multiple partnerships that are developing which will help us achieve this goal, and can’t wait to discover the possibilities that can come from working with other organizations. 

With inspiration and anticipation, we look forward to engaging with different perspectives and the incredible body of work that is out there, and in doing so, to better serving our community.
