our new home at riverside

Indianapolis Shakespeare Company is excited to announce our move to a permanent home at Riverside Park. Inspired by the Riverside Park Master Plan, Indy Shakes sought out a partnership with Indy Parks and Recreation, Indianapolis Parks Foundation, and Indiana Landmarks in January 2018.

This site-specific collaboration was immediate and seamless, as all four organizations’ strategic plans were in sync. The Lilly Endowment has granted our partnership $9.2 million in funding to restore the Taggart Memorial and building out an outdoor amphitheater connecting directly to the river.

2021’s mainstage performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was the first Indy Shakes production held on the Taggart Memorial Amphitheatre stage. We are elated to have the permanent outdoor amphitheater surrounded by both the historic Taggart Monument and the White River.

Indy Shakes is following a 2017 Strategic Plan goal to “expand the number of performances offered each season while maintaining the diverse audience mix and festival atmosphere”. This will be accomplished at Riverside Park by the priority booking and a permanent structure for public performances.

I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it
— Shakespeare, As You Like It

Indy Parks and Indy Shakes successfully collaborated for the first time in the summer of 2019 to bring the Indy Shakes Traveling Troupe performance of Macbeth to parks all around Indianapolis. This outreach met both the strategic goals of Indy Shakes to expand performances and outreach, as well as the goals of Indy Parks to develop new programming, increase engagement, and encourage first time visitors at Indy Parks around the city.
